Looking for Information on Deep River Vandalism
State Police are investigating a vandalism incident which occurred on 9/10/02
in the town of Deep River between the hours of 4:45pm and 5:15pm.
Damaged was the Speed Monitoring
Awareness (SMART) unit which was set up for speed detection on West Elm Street.
This machine was used on residential roadways in Deep River, Essex, Chester
and Old Lyme to alert drivers to the current speed their motor vehicles were
operating and was very popular with local residents who requested the machine
be set up in their neighborhoods. The machine was severely damaged by a large
car battery that was thrown through the glass speed display of the unit by and
unknown individual. The unit suffered several thousand dollars worth of damage.
